S181 Strap Seat Polymer – Residential Swing Seat

The S181 Strap Seat Polymer is a strong and cost-effective swing seat intended for residential use by children aged 4 to 12. Constructed with plastic inserts within a flexible polymer shell, it measures 25.5″ x 5.25″ x 3/16″ and supports a working load of 175 lbs. It connects securely to swing chains using large S-hooks or H-shackles, and is designed for a lifespan of 2 to 5 years, depending on climate and usage.

Installation Guidelines

• Recommended Chain Lengths:

  • 8′ swing frame: 5.5′ chain length

  • 10′ swing frame: 7.5′ chain length

  • Increase proportionally for taller frames

• Swing Connection: Attach large end of S-hook or H-shackle to seat holes. Secure opposite end to chain.

  • Use H-shackles or 5/16″ large end S-hooks only.

  • Note: Once S-hooks are opened, they must be replaced to prevent failure.

• Clearance Requirements:

  • Minimum 8″ from underside of seat to surfacing

  • Use zone must extend twice the vertical distance (seat to hanger) in both front and back

  • Side clearance: 6′ minimum from perimeter of swing

• Protective Surfacing:

  • Must meet ASTM F1292 standards

  • Do not install over concrete, asphalt, or hard surfaces

• Warning label must face upward for visibility

• Remove all drawstrings, helmets, scarves, or loose accessories that could cause entanglement

• Warning signage must conform to ANSI Z535.1 standards and be posted near the play area stating:

  • Age appropriateness

  • Supervision requirement

  • Safety hazards

Maintenance Schedule

Inspect at start and end of play season and monthly during use:

• Look for cracks, sharp edges, or wear around fasteners

• Check chain condition (rust or wear)

• Ensure fasteners are properly closed

• Verify protective surfacing depth and condition

• Replace entire set of swings if one shows significant wear

• Remove swing when temperatures fall below 0°F or rise above 100°F
